'Sir! It is a boy!'
A maid came rushing out of the birthing room. The father stood, his firstborn was a boy! It was such wonderous news! He was so overjoyed he didn't notice the maid's voice was stranger than usual and she had the strangest black lips.
He was about to go through and see his child when she blocked the way.
'Stand aside!' He said, how dare this commoner stand in his way?
'I am sorry sir...' the maid's voice sounded deeper all of the sudden, and now he was standing next to her, she seemed much taller. The truth hit his head.
The maid laughed as she ripped off the bonnet and dress. She was no maid...it was a man. A man that had haunted this family since long ago...
'You!'
'So sorry you'll never see your little boy's face, oh well! Can't be helped now, can it?' The assasin drew his sword and ran it through the unfortunate father, who died instantly.
The assasin wiped the sword clean, his pale, mismatched eyes reflected on the blade for a second. But he had no time to admire himself now, he had a job to finish.
He flung open the doors. a woman sat quivering with fear, clutching a newborn child to her chest, a pile of corpses surrounded her. The floor was dyed red with the blood.
'P-p-p-please...my child! He has done no wrong!'
The assasin kicked aside a few bodies, grinning at the expressions on their faces. He stroked the sleeping child's hair, it was soft like feathers.
'He was born to this world, that's what he's done wrong,' he spat, 'your beloved husband and this thing are nothing but filth! But then again...' The assain thought for a moment. What would make this revenge much more fun? '...I could spare him...'
The woman's eyes lit up with hope. But it was soon dimmed when the assasin shot her in the face. She fell still clutching the child.
The assasin gently picked up the sleeping baby, it had a name already, engraved on a silver necklace that hung around his neck.
Teru-to shine.
He tore it off the boy and flung it away, it set on fire and melted.
'Well, Teru , you're going to a new home...'
The assasin saddled his horse and rode to the nearest town, smiling as he heard the distraught cries of the ones who found the bodies.

Sixteen years later

'Teru! Wake up!'
Teru yawned and looked around the dormatory, Ayame smiled at him from the opposite bed.
'Come on! We're going to be late for round up!' Ayame chucked Teru his work clothes and waited for him to finish.
'Do you mind turning around?'
'Why? We're all guys here.'
The other boys were either getting dressed as well, or on their way out to the corridor.
Teru dressed, and Ayame took his hand and lead him out of the door. They stood side by side as the Officer inspected them.
'Today you all have five customers until lunch, then it's rest for the remainder of the day. Consider yourself lucky. Now, to your cubicles!'
Ayame waved goodbye to Teru as they headed off for their cubicles.
Teru unlocked his and entered. The name made it sound like some toilet cubicle. But it was actually a comfortable room with a soft bed and a window with a view of the fields outside. If it was cold in the dormatories, the workers could sleep here. Teru waited for his first guest. Because that was what he had been raised to do.
A prostitue in a male brothel, which raised up orphans to serve. Teru had been put to service when he was thirteen, the guests loved him. The face and body of a little angel, a charming smile and a sweet fragrance of roses. He was perfect.
The door opened, Teru stood and bowed.
'I am yours for this hour.' Teru said, like he had before for the last three years. His guest smiled and opened her arms.
'And indeed you are.'

That night afer the lights went out, Ayame climbed into Teru's bed.
'Ayame!'
'Sorry, I was cold, it's so warm in this bed! I'm much nearer to the window than you, the wind practically slaps me in the face.'
Ayame was like Teru, except dressed more in black. He adored Teru and was his only friend.
'Teru...how do you do it?'
'Huh?'
'How do you not cry about being stuck in here? Aren't you upset? I see grown adults cry because they get treated like filth here, but you...I've never seen you cry.'
'I am upset, I want to escape, Ayame...wouldn't you? I'm sick of this place...but there hasn't been an opportunity yet.'
'Will you? If one came?'
'Yes.'
'And leave me behind?'
Teru faced Ayame and held him, he looked straight into Ayame's eyes.
'Would you want to?'
'I would follow you everywhere.'
Ayame closed his eyes and fell asleep, soon, Teru did too.

'Ayame? Are you okay?'
It was lunch, Teru was sitting next to Ayame who was breathing deeply and sweating.
'Mm...nothing...It's just a small pain...'
'Maybe I should get someone...'
'NO! Don't...I don't need anything...I just...'
The other boys started whispering.
'Has that lunatic scientist been at Ayame again?'
'I heard he injected some prototype executioning thing...'
'No way...'
'He got at Simon last time, remember? He killed himself because he was in so much pain.'
Teru turned to Ayame. He looked like he was in so much agony, one of the boys ran to get help.
'T-T-Teru...' whispered Ayame, he grasped Teru's hand, tears rolled down his face.
'Yes?'
'Kill me...please...'
'Ayame! Don't say that! You...You'll be fine...Ayame...'
Ayame shook his head and pressed a knife into his hands.
'It's too painful...please...I would rather be killed by you than anyone else...he gave me a slow working poison...I'll die anyway...'
Teru shed tears, the others were telling him not to.
'You'll get thrown out! Do you want to be eaten by animals or what?'
'You crazy? He'll probably be whipped!'
'Or killed.'
Teru ignored them, he opened Ayame's jacket and looked at his friend's smiling face for the last time.
'Thank you.'
Teru pushed the knife in, Ayame collapsed into Teru's arms.
'It's gone...' Ayame said, 'the pain's all gone...all...gone...'
Teru wept as he held his dead friend, then, the Officers came and siezed him, he was given two hundred lashes and thrown out of the brothel, abandoned in some plains in the middle of nowhere.

The sun was setting as Teru recovered. He gazed at the sunset, and then at the blood on his hands and clothes.
Ayame...his friend...was dead.
Because of him.
Teru saw a jagged stone in the grass.
He had no reason to live, he had no one, no friends, no family, why should he carry on living?
He was about to push it into his chest when...
'I wouldn't do that if I were you.'
Teru stopped and looked at the owner of the voice.
A  man? No, he looked only a few years older than him. He was on a black horse and wore a dark travelling cloak embroidered with gold thread. A noble? Teru took one look at the noble's face and almost gasped.
An angular face, two sparkling eyes as bright as diamonds and hair, in the setting sun looked like autumn leaves.
'Who the Hell are you to tell me I can't do this?'
The noble jumped off his horse.
'I can take you else where, where there are people like you and me. We shall treat you like family. What do you say?'
Teru was confused.
'What do you mean 'like you and me'?'
The noble took off one of his silk gloves and placed it under Teru's nose.
'Smell.'
Teru took one sniff and took a step back in shock.
The noble smelt like him...except stronger and much more open.
'Who are you?' Teru demanded, 'are you from that godforsaken place I was thrown out of? Have they sent you here to finish me off?'
Then the noble did something unexpected.
He embraced Teru.
Teru could feel tears wetting his head, was this person crying?
'You poor thing...' he said, 'made to distrust and suspect, encaged within and locking away his true heart...you are indeed a Closed Rose.'
The noble let go of him and smiled.
'I am Kamijo Yuuji, but I prefer to be called my family name. Yuuji means 'guide of the way', is it not rather fitting?' Kamijo laughed. 'I am of the Red Roses, and already I have the Poisoned Rose under the roof of our ancestors. Will you not come and join us? Or do you want to waste the remainder of your eternal living alone?'
Eternal living? Was this guy mad? No person could live forever!
'I assure you, the Roses can live forever if left alone. I wish to spend my days with all of them. I care for no curse, I only wish for our happiness. Which we can achieve together...Teru.'
'How...?'
'I know many things, 'to shine'...is that right? It fits you. I shall explain everything along the way. Please, I ask again, come and live with the people who can share your pain, who understands what you have been through!'
Kamijo waited for an answer.
Teru remained silent.
'Very well.'
Kamijo reached into his pocket and brought out a bundle, he passed it to Teru who opened it.
It was a dozen throwing daggers.
'It was your grandfather's...take care of them.'
Kamijo pushed himself back onto his horse.
'Wha...FINE!'
'Huh?'
'I'll come, but don't expect me to hang around for long.'
Kamijo smiled brightly and offered Teru a hand up. He sat Teru infront of him and told him to hang on.
The horse galloped away from the field.
Leaving Teru's past behind.

'Jasmine! I have  him!'
Kamijo called as they stepped into a grand house. Teru yelled as he saw a frightening looking woman come towards him.
'Oh that's nice, he thinks I'm a monster.'
'Be kind, Teru, this is Jasmine You, the Poisoned Rose. Gifted at the arts of magic. Even though he dresses as a woman I can confirm he is indeed a man.'
Jasmine shook Teru's hand, Teru's hands were slightly scratched by the heavy rings Jasmine wore.
'If you be ungrateful, I'll make sure you never see daylight again...or anything else.' joked Jasmine.
'Jasmine!'
'It's a joke...'
The three of them headed to the dining chamber, Teru could only listen to the strange conversation the other two were having.
Teru would be out of here by next spring...
He was sure of it.
Teru's turn! I had to think this one over. Would I give him a happy past like Yuki? Or a seriously miserable one?
The Ayame I used is off Matenrou Opera! He's almost as sweet as Teru...
